MUSCLE TESTING AND FUNCTION WORKSHOP
Workshop Aims
To introduce qualified and experienced therapists’ techniques to identify specific soft tissue tonicity and weakness within the musculo-skeletal system.
Workshop Objectives
On completion of the course individuals will be able to competently assess and identify soft tissue dysfunction within the musculo-skeletal framework.

Registration and Introduction
Theory – Muscle function v dysfunction. Case study to
identify muscular imbalances. Tonic v Phasic
Practical - Muscle firing patterns, Gmax and hip extension,
Gmed and abduction. The relationship to lower limb injuries.
Break
Muscle length tests. Treatment of hypertonicity / hypotonicity using specific
modalities of Muscle energy techniques.
Lunch
Theory – Outer core unit, brief introduction to myofascial slings and
the gait cycle. Its relationship to the upper / lower extremity
Break
Practical - Rehabilitation to incorporate sling systems
Summary - certificates and dispersal
This is a very intense course using a high standard of practical skills; therefore a minimal level of Student ability is Sport Massage Therapist with ITEC, VTCT, Premier or similar diploma qualification.

Pre Course Learning is essential and we would suggest a good knowledge of the joint mentioned with particular emphasis on the joints/ligaments and muscle origins and insertions.
