A MODERN APPROACH TO MUSCLE ENERGY TECHNIQUES

Workshop Aims

This two-day course has been designed to assist physical therapists to identify specific soft tissue dysfunction and weakness within the musculo-skeletal system.

Workshop Objectives

On completion of the course individuals will be able to competently assess and identify soft tissue dysfunction within the musculo-skeletal framework. Once this has been achieved the physical therapist will be able to perform a variety of Muscle Energy Techniques that will help restore function.

Theory – Outer core unit, brief introduction to myofascial slings and the gait cycle. Its relationship to the upper / lower extremity

This course is aimed specifically at Sports Massage Therapists, Sports Therapists or Physiotherapist. Chiropractors and Osteopaths are also welcome.

Course tutor is John Gibbons BSc (OST)
John is a registered Osteopath. He is also a Sports & Remedial therapist and a lecturer in Sports Medicine / Athletic Performance for the University of Oxford. John travels the country and delivers specific courses in strapping / taping techniques, advanced joint assessment and lower limb biomechanics.

John specialises in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of sports related injuries for the University of Oxford prestigious sports teams (and enjoys being accredited as the Osteopath to the Oxford University Boat Club Men’s heavyweight rowing team).

John has publicly presented for many sports related organisations on manual therapy related topics and has also written several articles on Musculo-skeletal dysfunction for publications such as The Sports Injury Bulletin and the Federation of Holistic Therapy.
