Workshop Aims

To introduce qualified and experienced therapists’ specific techniques to assess, and treat the cervical spine safely and competently.

Workshop Objectives

On completion of the course individuals will be able to competently assess / treat and to identify specific injuries or dysfunction within the joint covered.

Registration and introduction
Surface anatomy of the cervical spine - theory
Surface anatomy - practical
Break
Assessment of the cervical spine. Active and passive ROM,
vertebral artery, specific cervical tests
Lunch
Motion testing of the cervical spine.
Differential diagnosis of cervical / referred patterns of pain
Break
Treatment of cervical spine. Strain-counterstrain (SCS),
Muscle energy techniques (MET), Active release techniques (ART)
Summary - certificates and dispersal

This is a very intense course using a high standard of practical skills; therefore a minimal level of Student ability is Sport Massage Therapist with ITEC, VTCT, Premier or similar diploma qualification.

Pre Course Learning is essential and we would suggest a good knowledge of muscle origins, insertions and actions.

The course is run over one day and the venue is at the University of Oxford Sports complex, Iffley Road, Oxford, OX4 1EQ.
